Stroke Patients at Increased Risk of Suffering Chronic Pain

In a breakthrough revelation, it was found that patients who have suffered a stroke are at increased risk of suffering from chronic pain. The study, said to be one of its kind, was published in the American Stroke Association Heart Journal.Ativan Sleeping Tablets

Lead researcher Martin J. O'Donnell of the National University of Ireland, Galway, said that the study was conducted on more than 15,000 survivors of stroke.

After evaluation of their research, researchers have reached to the conclusion that more than 10% of stroke survivors developed chronic pain. O'Donnell said the investigation led them to reach the conclusion that chronic pain syndromes are common, even when the person is suffering from shock at different levels of complexity.

It was found that the study participants were of researchers for more than two years. She noted, however, that all of these patients had varying degrees of severity of stroke. Some of the many types of chronic pain researchers have discovered neuropathic pain, central pain and stroke shoulder.

"Our results show that the new chronic pain syndromes are important long-term complication of ischemic stroke, even in a population of patients with mild or moderate in severity, ischemic stroke," the study said the scientists.
