Pacemakers for depression patients

German scientists have implanted a pacemaker in the brain of patients suffering from depression, with excellent results.

Researchers from the University of Bonn Hospital pacemaker implanted electrodes in the medial forebrain bundle in the brains of patients suffering from depression. In six of the seven patients, symptoms improved as quickly and significantly.Ambien Sleeping Tablets

Method of deep brain stimulation has been tested on various structures of the brain, but clearly less effect.

The results of this new study is published in the International Journal of Biological Psychiatry.

"Effects and speed of response has not been achieved in any other way," says Prof. Dr. Thomas E. Schläpfer of Bonn University Hospital Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy.
